We are Crystal and Curtis McHardy, a husband-and-wife team
Our dream of a simpler life in Belize began in 1999, upon our return to Trinidad & Tobago. We sought a homecoming filled with vibrant culture, a slower pace, and deep family connections. We quickly opened a bar and restaurant in Tobago, eager to embrace island life.
Then, in 2001, our world shifted. The 9/11 attacks, coupled with a difficult pregnancy of our second child drastically altered our path. By mid-2003, we faced the agonizing decision to leave Tobago. Our dream collided with the harsh reality of land ownership. Had we owned the land our restaurant stood on, we could have weathered the post-9/11 economic downturn that hit Tobago with chilling force."
Back in the States, we yearned for a slower pace, a deep connection with nature, and a strong sense of community. We began researching, dreaming. In 2012 Belize emerged, a faint whisper at first, then a compelling possibility. We were drawn to its lush rainforests, vibrant coral reefs, and laid-back culture—a striking echo of Trinidad & Tobago. It was a chance to rewrite our story, to build a life where the rhythms of nature dictated the pace, and where community provided a sense of belonging.
Sharing our dream with family and friends revealed an unexpected truth: many shared our longing for a tropical haven within a community of like-minded individuals. Their enthusiasm ignited a new vision:
Sans Souci Estate Belize.
